TNF blockers were the second largest selling class of biological products (excluding vaccines), with total sales in 2005 estimated at $7.64 billion.

Tumor Necrosis Factor (TNF) is a cytokine, a chemical substance which delivers messages between cells in the body, which is involved in the inflammatory process.

TNF blockers are part of a class of drugs known as Biologic Response Modifiers. They work by attaching to and impeding these chemical messengers, reducing inflammation and thus lessening pain.
