Human growth hormone biologics the seventh largest selling class of biological products, with total sales in 2005 estimated at $2.3 billion.

Growth hormone is a protein hormone secreted by the pituitary gland which stimulates growth and cell reproduction. The human form of growth hormone is known as human growth hormone, or hGH. In the past growth hormone was extracted from human pituitary glands and given to deficient children.

hGH can refer either to the natural hormone produced by the pituitary (somatotropin) or biosynthetic somatropin (recombinant human growth hormone). Human growth hormone is given to both children and adults to treat a variety of conditions.
